9 Things I do when I have nothing to do

Filed under: Productivity, Random Fun Shit Written by Beamer - Texas Tech @ 5:31 pm

First of all HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Now on to the post.

Become more productive by filling your wasted time with productive things. Do you find yourself watching stupid videos on YouTube for hours on end? Here are things that I personally do when I have absolutely nothing to do.

Don’t get me wrong, everyone needs some downtime. So if you relax by playing video games or watching YouTube videos, then don’t forgo that time. But if you’ve been playing 5-6 hours of video games a day (as long as your job isn’t related to video games), then you’re wasting time you could be using to becoming more productive, gaining more knowledge, and ultimately making more money.

Figure out where your time leaks are and use that time productively.

Things I do to Be Productive

1. Do pushups – If you got 30-60 minutes to burn, or even less like 5-10 minutes, why not do some pushups? Try this program. After I started doing pushups daily, not only have I realized that my arms have gotten more cut, but I also feel better overall about my body. It’s because the pushup is one of those great bodybuilding exercises that targets several key muscle groups including the chest, triceps, shoulders, and torso.

2. Read blogs – I love reading other people’s blogs, and my range of blogs goes from college-related to men’s health to personal blogs to finance blogs. Find blogs that interest you and subscribe to them via Google reader or your e-mail.

3. Listen to podcasts – Podcasts are similar to blogs, but instead of reading, you’ll listen to them. So find some podcasts that interest you and listen to them when you have free time. This is also something you can do on your iPod or iPhone, so when you have some free time in line or waiting for a haircut, you’ll be doing something productive.

My favorite place to listen to is Ozworth.com – which is a speed coaching podcast that delivers material regarding internet businesses, success, self-improvement, and more on quick 7-minute coaching sessions.

4. Write a blog post - This only works if you have a blog. If you do, then try getting some of your thoughts online on your blog. This is great because not only will you be writing your thoughts online, but you could potentially be making some income.

5. Learn about my major - So I’m currently majoring in economics and what I sometimes do when I have downtime is to read about my major. I read the news and also blogs that tie in to my major. If you haven’t found any yet, then I suggest you start looking at some resources.

6. Study a foreign language – I don’t particularly think this is studying at all. Instead I think that knowing a foreign language is great for your career, its great for your personal development, heck its great even for dating if you think about it (increase your dating pool).

Right now I’m learning Japanese at JapanesePod101.

7. Take a power nap – A quick twenty minute nap when you have free time is actually healthy for your body. There have been studies that show that power-naps will help you become more efficient and more alert. Check out this article for more information.

8. Read - I know some of you may think reading is for nerds, but it really isn’t. Reading helps you in so many ways that I can’t begin to post here, but check out this blog article for more information on how reading can help your life.

9. Think up of more ways to earn money – I jot some ideas down on my iPhone. Maybe you’re waiting in line at a restaurant. Look around and see if you can find some inspiration. If I’m at my computer I’ll look through my list of “ways to make money” and then see if I can implement any of them.
