Before there was a time when I would loathe checking my bank account, and this was because I was constantly spending more than my means. This was a problem because I started to overspend. Now I’m keeping my spending under control by checking my bank account and keeping track of how much money I spend.
So follow my example to keep track of your assets.
#1) Check your account everyday – Make sure you bank with a bank that allows you to check your balance online and posts a fairly current balance. Check your account everyday and know how much money you can spend. Not only are you figuring out your balance, you are also making sure you don’t overdraft.
#2) Put all your receipts in a box – Always get your receipt and put them all in a box. At the end of the month, empty the box and take a look through them. Figure out what purchases were stupid. Don’t make the same mistake the next month. As you continually do this, you’ll start having no stupid purchases.
#3) Pay off your credit card EVERY month – Don’t keep a balance in there. Using a credit card is fine, but if you’re borrowing money that you can’t pay back immediately, you’re going to be basically throwing money away with your interest that you’re paying. Not to mention late fees.
